Contrast Therapy

Using two sets of stones, one set is kept cold while the other is heated, an alternating method of stonework is applied to the body. The cold stones cause vasoconstriction within the body, a tightening of the skin and physiological structures of the body. Opposite to this reaction is that of the heated stones which will cause vasodilation, an expansion of the tissue and structures. When alternating between the cold and hot stones a constant constriction and expansion occurs in the body. This change causes a pull and relaxation of the tissues around nerve endings that can promote pain relief to effected areas of the body. It also promotes a natural movement of interstitial fluids (fluids contained within the body), inflammation and edema.

Many clients I have performed this on have returned to me with reports of pain relief. It becomes a common addition to the massage after the effects become as noticeable as I have seen in the past.
