Cupping

also known as Decompression Therapy

Cupping is a form of Decompression Therapy that causes a lifting of tissues upwards which increases space for underlying structures rather than tissue compression. Cupping creates negative pressure where a typical massage creates positive pressure. Expanding blood vessels of the skin lead to increased blood circulation, functioning of sweat & oil glands, and nutritional supply to tissues. Bringing fresh blood to stagnant areas enhances the movement of these vital nutrients to our skin and muscles. Cupping can cause scar tissue to soften, and a restructuring of our fascia can occur. Topical lubricants, such as CBD, are more readily absorbed into the body due to the temporary enlarged pores. It can also cause an increase in our synovial secretions and stretches our connective tissue in our joints. Activating blood vessels within the muscles and assisting  our lymphatic system to remove lactic acids and wastes within the muscles. Reducing our sympathetic nervous system response, and loosening tissues which may be impinging on smaller more superficial nerves found within our skin and muscles, which can lead to reducing pain severity and sensations felt.

Benefits of Cupping include:

  • Contracted and congested tissues soften quickly, making the work easier and more effective for the massage therapist.
  • Sedating to the body due to the strong pull on nerve endings, easing pain signals and helping to relax clients.
  • Increases circulation which improves lymphatic drainage and improved immunity, as well as reduces swelling.
  • Eases labored breathing associated with asthma and pneumonia.
  • Increases flexibility as well as improving quality and quantity of movement.

Conditions which may benefit from Cupping:

  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Asthma or Breathing issues
  • Poor Digestion
  • Diabetes
  • Scar tissue rehabilitation
  • Myofascial release
  • Chronic Headache
  • Arthritis
  • Limited ROM
  • Sports’ Injuries
