Craniosacral Therapy is a manual therapy that involves no swedish, deep tissue or compressions. Craniosacral work involves many holds that are performed where the touch is similar or even less than the pressure used in Manual Lymph Drainage. It has a calm and relaxing benefit as you are asked to allow your body to let go of the stress and frustrations caused by life while you focus on a peaceful meditation. As your body is held, you feel the rhythm of your breathe and heartbeat, but as you go further into a state of relaxation you begin to sense the underlying biorhythms of the body from the movement of the cranial fluids to the energy in the meridians. Our goal is to bring you back in sync with your natural biorhythms through a balancing of the body and mind. When your consciousness becomes attuned to the rhythms of these movements your internal structure makes your awareness focus on an inward expansion. This can often have an emotional effect on people, but more often this work provides the client with a calming and relaxing session of quiet, peaceful meditation.
Maybe you've heard the terms "biomechanical" and "biodynamics" associated with Craniosacral Therapy, but you're not sure what this all means. This is most easily described as the difference between the practice utilized by a Doctor of Osteopathy and that of a non-DO practitioner. Similar to the practice of a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Massage Therapist. If you would like to know more about the founding father of this modality you can find information on the internet about William Sutherland (1873-1954) whose work all Craniosacral Therapy is derived from. My classes follow the teachings of Dr. Charles Ridley as taught by David Sol, and fall under the biodynamic side of the family. David Sol and his wife, Misha, reside in Illinois and teach this biodynamic approach to Craniosacral Therapy. Dr. Ridley has retired for the most part and does not often teach students anymore, enjoying retired life in Mexico.
