Lomilomi is a cultural practice of the Native Hawaiians. Each island, every family that practices Lomilomi has it's own unique style of the technique. Their tradition is passed down through a lineage that is upheld by each haumāna. The lineage can take a lifetime to understand and learn.
Since 2014, I have trained under the Hawaiian Kupuna Uncle Kaipo Kaneakua of Waikiki, Oahu. As taught by himself and his haumāna Kumu Daniel Moore of Elk Grove Village, Illinois.
We are haumāna, students, of the Kumu, teacher, in Hawaiian culture. It is our sacred duty to continue the lineage and it's practice for future generations to benefit from. It is of utmost importance that we protect and cherish the knowledge passed down by our Kupuna.
It was King Kamehameha I who is credited with the unification of the Hawaiian Islands and was known to express the importance of protecting the culture of his people. Lomilomi and Lāʻau, Hula are many of the important practices the haumāna of today carry forth for future generations to enjoy and benefit from.
